Caylee Marie Anthony is Missing, Her Mother is in Jail

Orange County, Florida

Yesterday, news that two-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony was missing hit the media. She'd already been missing for more than a month and nobody knew except her mother, Casey Marie Anthony.

Caylee's disappearance was finally reported on July 15th after her grandmother, Cindy Anthony, confronted her daughter about Caylee's where abouts and insisted the police be called after discovering Casey hadn't seen Caylee since June 9th.

Casey Anthony has been arrested and is being held without bond. The charges are child neglect, giving false official statements, and obstruction of an investigation. Prior to Anthony's arrest she led police on a wild goose chase.

Anthony told police that she was only reporting Caylee's disappearence because her mother was insisting on it. She said she hadn't reported Caylee missing before because she had seen "movies and reports" that missing people get hurt if the police become involved. She told them (police) that she had been conducting her own investigation.

Anthony claimed that she had last seen Caylee when she left her with the babysitter, Zenaida Gonzalez on June 9th. She told police she had been visiting places she knew Gonzalez frequented in hopes of seeing Gonzalez or her daughter. Anthony took police to the apartment where Gonzalez allegedly lived. Police later discovered that the apartment had been vacant for the last 142 days. The building manager checked her records and it was further discovered that Gonzalez had looked at an apartment but was never a tenant. The manager was able to provide police with a guest card that had Gonzalez' contact details including a cell phone number. When police contacted Gonzalez she denied knowing Caylee or Casey. When shown pictures she said she didn't recognize either of them. Anthony said she didn't recognize Gonzalez when police showed her a picture of Gonzalez. When Anthony later confessed to police that she had lied about the apartment she also admitted that her ex-boyfriend lived across the street from the residence she claimed Gonzalez lived in.

Anthony had also accompanied police to an area where she claimed Gonzalez' mother lived in a condo. After driving around for a while she told officers she couldn't remember which condo the mother lived in because she had been there so many times she stopped paying attention.

Anthony lied about her employment as well. She told police she had her own office but could not remember her office extension. She also claimed to have lost her I.D. badge. When police accompanied Anthony to the place she claimed to work, the name she gave the security guard as her supervisor was not somebody who was or ever had been employed there. Police then escorted her to the building she claimed to work in. Once inside she proceeded down a hall as if she knew where she was going but about half way stopped and admitted she had lied. At that point police made use of an empty conference room to question Anthony. It was then that she admitted to some of the lies she had told and that she should have called police the day Caylee went missing.

According to the police report Anthony showed no obvious emotion about the loss of her daughter, continued to claim ignorance, and at times laughed about the situation.

Caylee is still missing. Orange County Sheriff's Department is asking anyone with information and especially anyone who has seen Caylee with her mother or anyone else since June 9th to contact their office or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).

Did the police dig up the concrete patio in the backyard yet?

I don't believe so. As I understand it, the area they were working on was where the cadaver dogs hit, which I believe was near a sandbox and play house.
